Not every psychopath is a homocidal maniac... but this one is!

Dexter was born & raised outskirts of Pittsburgh PA, on an isolated farm with his extensive (and incestuous) family. He had a very rough upbringing, enduring constant physical & sexual abuse from his older siblings, which laid the shaky foundation for his cracked psyche. He displayed all the early warning signs of what to come-- setting fires, killing small animals, and wetting the bed into his late teens (yes that's a real thing).

Dex would run away at 14 and make his way up to New York (the rust belt part, not the city), where he began a life of petty crime. By 19 he had taken up prostitution and developed an affinity for cocaine & LSD, which further deteriorated his mental health. After eventually snapping and turning a sex tape into a snuff film, Dex discovered a new high that he needed to chase— so he did it again, and again, and again, each murder more grotesque than the last. He continued recording his killing spree, at first for his own viewing pleasure, but then decided to share his “films” on the dark web, where they quickly gained notoriety and earned him a small fanbase of fellow sadists & gorehounds. But a close call with the law ends him up behind bars for unrelated charges, where he meets Oliver Brumfield, a dissolute psychologist & single father serving a little over a year for multiple DUIs. To Dex's surprise, Oliver is not only unperturbed by his violent nature, but also proves to be equally matched in the art of manipulation. The two grow to enjoy each other’s company, develop an intimate relationship, and move in together after being released, later adopting a second child under Dex’s name.

Despite being openly abrasive & hostile, Dex is often seen by others as somewhat charismatic and highly persuasive, which he uses to his advantage. Those who've met him (and survived) know him as a fun & outgoing person who's entertaining at best and annoying at worst. He has an obsession with filmmaking & DIY torture devices, an affinity for gore of all kinds, and a fascination with gruesome deaths. When he's not out "making movies" he spends most of his time at home where he acts doting & domestic with his loved ones, cooking & scrapbooking being his other less extreme hobbies. His morals are confusing and inconsistent— he's full of himself but prefers others hate him, he's cold & calculating while also impatient & impulsive, he has trouble taking things seriously yet he also has a very short fuse and is easily upset over little trivial things. Above all else, maintaining control is most important to him.

After spending the first two-thirds of his life prowling the streets for victims, Dex now finds himself having to juggle his disturbing interests with his new unsuspecting home life.
